50 Post Milestone! And a PR Downgrade? Hmm…
First, a little horn tooting for reaching 50 posts! Woohoo! Yippie!! Yay for me!!!
Don’t worry, I don’t dare to openly compare myself to Darren Rowse again
All kidding aside, I sincerely hope they have been good quality posts for all involved
Hmm, it seems though that the good quality posting is at least half the reason I got a PR downgrade from Google - I went from 3 to 2 during the last dance at the end of July!
Huh? What?! Penalized by Google for quality content?? Well, in a round-about sorta way…
Those that have been with me for awhile may remember that I had well more then 50 posts at one point. However, realizing that the posts weren’t even close to stellar (not by a long shot), I removed about 40 of them.
Sorry, it seems I removed the post that explains that too LOL. Long story short, I realized I was posting daily for the sole purpose of saying I was posting daily….not a smart idea.
My plan was to touch them up a bit and re-integrate them along with new posts…that combined with NO content due to a sudden two month disappearance, left me with far less content over-all than when I got the PR3.
Oops. Ugh. Ah well, I’m not too worried about it. Aside from the fact that PR really doesn’t mean as much as it used to; keeping up with good content and link building should put me back to 3 or better in no time.
For obvious reasons, you won’t see yet another “PR is crap” post from me, but the rest is a good lesson here for all bloggers. I hope you can take something from my “mistake”…I know I did.
Never stop pushing forward!
Dennis

Thats all I concentrate on. I never worry about pr. People are still finding my blg via google and other search engines and link building
September 12th, 2008 at 10:52 am
did you remove the posts before the PR went down? I image having a lot of 404’s happening would do that. I know how you feel though, when I tried to make sure I blogged every day it burned me out. Now that I’m super busy, I can’t stop blogging!
September 12th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Great to have ya here Andy!
Yes, definitely before. So the 404’s and a lot less content is what did it.
I didn’t even think of the 404’s before. Is there a way to delete a post and not have a 404 happen?

Hey Bruno, thanks for coming back! You’re 100% right, just keep pluggin and it should be all good

PR… I don’t care about it — unless it’s “Public Relations” and not “PageRank”!

Quite true Lucas, it sure isn’t what it used to be. It is nice to look at though
My main point being, just keep up the content and link building like I wasn’t, and all should be ok.

Actually, I will call it as I see it, and if for some reason I see that PR is crap, then I shall say so, for that is the job of any good blogger. As for Google, as much as I like a good PR, that is not what drives me.
PS….happy 50th

You’re right Sire, it shouldn’t “drive” any blogger, at least not 100%
I call things as I see them also. My point was, there are already literally hundreds of posts now in regards to peoples thoughts on whether PR is worth it or not….. no need for more rehash, at least not here
September 14th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Yeah, me I just love to do a bit of Google bashing, every now and again.

PR is seen as the end all value of a web site. Fortunately this is not completely true, i noticed a drop in page rank in some of my sites but now they are receiving more Google search traffic than ever.
September 15th, 2008 at 9:29 am
Very true TWK, and it once was what it’s supposed to be. Ironically, it was Google themselves that devalued it with all the fooling around.
September 18th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Google has been discounting PR from a number of directories and other sources recently. That might be the cause for the drop you saw. Quite a few visitors saw a drop but luckly PR isn’t directly correlated to traffic.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Not directly towards traffic no, but unfortunately it is still considered by a lot of potential advertisers.
Thanks for the input

Isn’t that so annoying?!? Google is so weird sometimes. I used to have a PR of 4 which I was really proud of, but I was inactive for a while and so it went down to 2. I’m hoping I didn’t blow my chance with google though for a high page rank.
Congratulations on reaching the milestone. It’s quite an achievement no matter how much you can post. I’m not even close to that yet. You’ve got a great blog here, I’m going to come back in the future.

So true Jonathan, but I don’t think you’re ruined for Google. Hope the same thing I’m hoping…now active again, it should go back up.
Thanks for all the kind words, I look forward to seeing you ’round!

Hi Dennis,
Congrats on your 50th post. I know what’s the feeling. PR is not that big deal except when you are looking for advertisers. More importantly is just do whatever is the right thing like link building and write more good stuff for your readers.
