  • Do You Have An Advertising Page?

Again my apologies for dashing your hopes, but I’m not looking to purchase (at least not right now). I’ll give you some extra link love at the end to make up for it ;) .

Albeit a quick post, lets call this a follow-up to my somewhat ranty yet popular post regarding blank advertising blocks and the evil of it all. My main point of it all being simply, they are unprofessional and desparate looking to potential advertisers. If you are actively, seriously seeking advertisers you need a well done advertising page.

Well, do ya have one? We want to see it! I think it would be a great help to beginners without one. Let us know what you display, why you think it’s important, and if you have anything different then others that you’ve seen (ex: graphics/screenshots, etc.).

Basically, anything you think an advertiser would want to know, without making the page too much to scroll. PLUS, do you have automatic style “buy now” buttons right on the page or do you have them contact you first?

Comment well young Jedi’s and I will allow up to 2 links within your comment - your advertising page and also if you have one of those “why advertise here” pages.

I think those pages are a pretty cool idea if done nicely. I’ve seen a few that were perhaps a wee bit over the top, screaming EGO ALERT! LOL

I look forward to seeing your masterpieces,
    Dennis

      Hey Dennis,

I have no advertising page as I’m too cool for ads… no, just kidding, maybe I’ll give it a thought later this year.

The most important thing is to be real about how much you’re asking for your ad slots.

Decide on your monthly price based on your traffic volume, taking into account the accepted CPM for the given slot on a site of your rank (and I mean traffic not PR :D )

And, keeping in mind that once the advertiser has his ad on your site he’d be able to know your traffic anyway, it’s not a very good idea to claim you have 2000 daily visits when you actually 20. LOL… could be embarrassing.

      Cheers,
      Alex

Is PR dead? No it’s not. Contrary to popular opinion, at the very least it is alive and well in the eyes and minds of potential advertisers and will be until it is gone forever, if that ever happens.

Btw, by “popular opinion” I mean the 1000 bloggers that copy the words of the 1000 bloggers before them and so on…none of which actually having a clue. LOL

I think what you put on your advertising page depends on the overall credentials of your blog. If your blog really doesn’t have that many credentials, I would suggest telling what you think advertisers would benefit from purchasing advertising from your blog

    9. Living on Adsense Blog Says:

I don’t have a standard advertising page as my blog does not get too many hits, just around 100 per day. I don’t want to rip off any of my readers by offering advertising when the will not get much of a return on their investment so I created my ‘Free advertising’ page:

      http://livingonadsense.com/free-advertising

How it works is I randomly choose four people from the comments of the previous month and allow those bloggers to advertise on my blog for free. It’s like a little contest where every comment becomes an entry into the draw. This way I can see how effect my advertising will be and it encourages my readers to help build my community.

@Living on Adsense Blog, If I may, I’ve always gone by the mantra that if someone’s willing to pay you for it, then you’re worth it. Don’t sell yourself short; if you’re going to accept advertising, and someone wants to pay you, then accept it and continue trying to make your blog the best it can be. Go for it! :-)

      Dennis Edell Reply:

@Living on Adsense Blog, that’s a very cool idea. Are you advertising this? Posting about it, linking to it, etc…

      Nick Reply:

@Living on Adsense Blog, I really like your idea, but at the same time from a quick glance around your site, I think you should only do that to fill remaining ad slots.

You should include an option so that people who want to can actually purchase an ad spot. Your site looks plenty active enough to warrent someone wanting to purchase some ad space…heck, depending on the price I might even be willing to.

The one drawback to giving it away like you do is that while it is good for encouraging participation, someone who really wants to advertise will not be guaranteed a spot and you are leaving money on the table so to speak.

    10. Mitch Says:

Actually, I don’t have an advertising page, as I haven’t quite determined what I’d do with it, or how to set it up, but I have thought about it. I know Sire had one on one of his blogs a long time ago, but I’m not sure if he’s still using it.

@Dennis Edell, I am still using TLA, but I’ve NEVER had a sale. I removed it for awhile but decided to put it back for the time being. Mostly, I don’t want TLA to close my account in case I find a site/situation to really make good use of it in the future.

      Nick Reply:

@Dennis Edell, I do realize that there is a bit of a Google penalty for running the program, but I’m not so confident that I would rank much higher for any particular keyword without running it. My site is more thoughts and ramblings than keyword focused which is a rank killer in itself. I figure I may as well try to get any income I can rather than worry about pleasing Google.

      Shirley Reply:

@Dennis Edell, Yes, the blog wasn’t originally created for income. The blog was created mainly to provide information, network with others, and talk about industry news…

And those ‘odd’ ads that you see were only added a while after the blog was up. They serve as a small incentive to keep writing. :-) Due to placement, they don’t really bring in much income at all, but they do typically cover hosting and annual domain registration fees.
