Blog Revamp Update: Done - WOOHOO!
Check it out! Top sidebar is DONE & PERFECT!
A huge thank you to Acakadut for pointing out the problem with my submit buttons. I just can’t believe I missed such a simple fix, doh!
(I’m not telling or you’ll know just what a SUPER dope I really am
)
A huge thank you also to my buddy Yan and his BlogForBeginners for working (quite a while) on getting the Most Popular Posts in there just right!
Apparently he had to do straight PHP coding as the other widgets were messing with that widget.
Soooo like it?…..Better? Much better? Super Duper Cool?? Let me know! I wanna know!! I need to know!!!
Ahem…..whoa, sorry about that. Seriously, whatcha think?

It’s my pleasure, buddy. Oh ya, it looks more alive now that the top section is not empty. Glad I could be part of the changes….

Your blog looks much better now that there is real information in those top three boxes. It shows that the lights are on and someone’s at home. (grin)
I think it is a big improvement.

hey Dennis!
what a surprise to see the blocks at the top fiiiiinally filled up LOL way to go!
Now, I am all for giving positive comments, gratulations and the lot, but also would like to be sincere, guess that is more important after all, :P:P:P
I am using a firefox browser to enter your blog and apart from the positive changes you made to that disturbing coming soon area… maybe you should sit back and have a look at the far right block you currently are using for sociable… ask yourself the following questions…
how does it look in comparison to the other two blocks?
is it really in balance?
does it look a bit off to you?
do you really feel that those “sociable links” are the best use of your advertising area?
aaaaaaanyways… glad you started using that space … finally :)):))

Agree with what Mirjam has just said, it’s time to get yourself some nice icons if you need to keep those social stuffs…otherwise that is a very valuable piece of real estate you are better off with something else….

John - thanks buddy, I can always count on you
October 21st, 2008 at 8:22 am
Mirjam - LOL@disturbing
I’m not sure why the browser matters? I use FF also…
Interesting questions though, here goes…..hehe
Yep, it does look a little off kilter for now as there are but just a few so far. If you recall (or ever saw) the list of sites on my sidebar you know I do belong to quite a few….and even more then what was in THAT list also LOL
However, if we go back in time a bit you’ll see I’m getting back into them 1×1 slooowly and doing it right…so there will be more.
As for use of space, I’ve had sign-ups to each just in the past day or two that they have been there, soooo YES!
at least for a while.
Besides, someone won a prize for that idea, and for the time being i have nothing else to really put there.
Thanks for the feedback my friend, it gets me thinkin’
October 21st, 2008 at 8:25 am
Yan - Icons, yes. I’ve been thinkin lots on that as a way to snazz it up a bit.
However I don’t know where to get them or how to put them in if i want to after all….at least I don’t think I know; never done it.
October 21st, 2008 at 8:37 am
Putting those icons is easier said than done actually. It may be quite a task for you….. why it never occur to you to place your adsense there anyway?
Yan
October 21st, 2008 at 9:22 am
hey Dennis
that is good to know, that you are already seeing some “profit” from using that space (referring to the people who have signed up) so I guess that is working out for you :D:D
Don´t fix what isn´t broken, maybe you could just “oil” it a bit to have it run smoother, ie, be easier on the eye
as for the ff browser comment LOL, guess i put that because i don´t know what that area looks like in other browsers and i could be completely missing out on some wonderful design feature for all i know :P:P

Come to think of it, I should do actually that myself, sit back and have a good look at my stuff, design revamp is way overdue I´m afraid ROFL

Looks good. Probably the only things I would do is get some info in the footer (good for SEO purposes if you make sure your targeted keywords are at the end of your pages). Also, I’d take out the Meta links.
Otherwise, nice revamping!

Yan - I guess I’ll have to outsource it
You’ll notice there is no adsense anywhere. For the time being at least I’m fed up with Google’s TOS changing more often then my undies….I really don’t have time for it.
I also said right from the get-go (although I didn’t really pronounce it) that there will be NO ADS at all in those 3 boxes…to me that’s just rude LOL
October 21st, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Mirjam - Oil coming up! (Coming soon? hehe)
I don’t mind your site. Simple and easy to navigate
unless your looking for that whole 2.0 rage.
Either way, I’m a subscriber
October 21st, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Kristi - OK ya stumped me, my KW’s among other things already are in the footer…..
October 21st, 2008 at 6:46 pm
ROFL oh yes, sooner than both you and I were expecting!
btw… your commentluv doesn´t really like me :((
Mirjam´s last blog post..Challenging Yourself, Do You Do It?

My commentluv is still the old version which tends to wonk out from time to time now.
The new one (totally awesome) need WP 2.6 or higher…..I’m waiting patiently for 2.7
Coming soon! LOL
October 21st, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Actually Dennis, if you have loaded the WP automatic update plugin, then you could og ahead and update now, and updating to 2.7 will be easy as,… well, easier than pie; who ever said making pie was so easy anyway.

October 21st, 2008 at 7:39 pm
LOL, just updated my WP version, waaaay overdue, I believe I was still using 2.1 or something ROFL and all plugins were outdated. Good thing next update will be … easier than pie!

Mitch - I can’t make pie to save my life.
The reason I haven’t tried that yet, is I don’t really like the automation sometimes..something is bound to go wrong LOL, but I may.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Congrats Mirjam, I’m on 2.3.3
October 22nd, 2008 at 12:04 am
Dude, trust me, it literally takes less than a minute to do the automatic update, whereas sometimes the regular update install could take close to 10 minutes, longer if something got messed up.
And, by the way, I think you need a replies plugin, so people can respond to a particular post. I use Threaded Comments, just so you know; I’m not sure which one Sire uses.

How does that differ from the upgrade link in fantastico? That takes like 2 seconds also…just nervous.
I’ve thought about the threaded comments, but I’ve heard it can screw things up if you get lot of comments.
October 22nd, 2008 at 3:12 am
Nevermind. I said wtf and clicked the link LOL…I’m now 2.6.2
October 22nd, 2008 at 4:39 am
hey Dennis,
about the upgrade through fantastico, not sure here because I never tried it myself because I did not dare. It looked to me that they would upgrade all folders, wp-content as well, meaning that you would lose all your custom configurations like uploaded plugins and themes…
but … congrats to you too on the update
from here on it all seems to become easier and easier
October 22nd, 2008 at 5:10 am
Hey Mirjam - it’s funny, it does say something to that effect (changing theme and so forth) but I tried it first on another blog I’m about to delete….all good so I did it here.
October 22nd, 2008 at 7:29 am
Looks much better than the old “Coming Soon…” I’m glad you got it all set up and working.

The upgrade went easy, didn’t it? I’m glad to help encourage you to do it. As for threaded comments, you get to set how many layers of them you want. I haven’t had a single problem with it.

October 22nd, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Mike - thanks buddy I appreciate that!
October 22nd, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Mitch - Yep, I did use fantastico though. I hear the auto-upgrade thing is a built in feature of 2.7 so I’ll wait on that.
I may be a plugin junkie, but the few the better from what I understand LOL. Besides, it sounds cool because Fantastico doesn’t actually get WP upgrades for a few weeks.
One of the reasons I was waiting is because of the drastic dashboard change….2.6.2 is bad enough, now I’ll have to learn something newer lol.
I must say though the auto-upgrade of plugins button is sweet!
