Both Contests End Tonight! Important Info…
It’s the 31st!
The best blog review contest winners will be announced when I figure it all out. I’m hand picking at least the first two; there were so few entries, I may handpick them all. Due to the lack of entries, I also have to have conversations with some sponsors…..whom I feel really bad for.
All this will be explained when the winners and prizes are announced. No real worries, all the winners will win of course
.
The January top commenter contest will end at whatever hour I log off tonight (assuming it’s not after midnight already). Now before y’all jump all over me about possibly cutting off some spam time, allow me to explain…
I have no idea yet how this particular top commenter plugin operates when it rolls into a new month. IF it simply deletes and starts over with no tracking of the previous months names, then everyone is screwed. What I will do is simply copy the names/numbers before I log off for the night and that will be that. I usually log off between 8-10pm Est. Winners will be announced hopefully Monday.
The February contest will of course start as soon as it rolls over. Sponsors and prizes for it will be announced later.
——————————-
FYI: I was half kidding about “spam time”. Be on the lookout for several posts on the way regarding comments on this blog…both generally speaking, and related to the contests. I also have some big awesome news to reveal regarding the contests!
I admit to being a wee disorganized this time around. I got a bunch of things coming and going at the same time (and not just the contests). Anyhoo, that’s all for now; enjoy the rest of your weekend
.
Dennis

Hey I came here via Barbara Swafford. How have I been missing out on your blog??
I could copy and paste this comment 200 times in the next hour and maybe I’d win your Top Commenter for January right? (But I won’t. Wouldn’t be fair to the others who have been reading all your scintillating posts.)

I think you have to option of resetting the top commenters for every month. Go to your appearance (theme) –> widget
then click on the top commenters. you should see either options or edit button on it. Then set it to reset every new month.

@Dalirin,
Yepper that’s how I set it up; that’s also my point. Since this is the first month in use, I don’t know exactly what it does when it rolls over to the next month.
IF it simply deletes and starts over with no tracking of the previous months names, then everyone is screwed.

@Dennis Edell, Yup it just refreshes and everyone is back to zero. No tracking for you!

About how much longer until the cutoff? I might get in under the wire if there is enough time left?

@Internet Strategist,
I assume you mean the review contest - technically midnight (4hrs), but if everything is done by the time I wake in the morning, I’ll include it.

@Dennis Edell, I published it before midnight CST. (11:24 p.m. per WordPress) Not sure what time zone you’re in. Shared on FriendFeed, Twitter and cliKball (THE latest Social Networking site that Robert Scoble alluded to - still in Alpha Testing).

@Dennis Edell, Was that what you had in mind? You did say, “I want honest reviews. If you do find anything “wrong”, then add it. However you must also add your thoughts on how to “fix” the issue(s). Ex: if you don’t like the colors, suggest new ones.”
Reading the rest of your contest post again you could have meant “review” in a different context - the one the other entrants took.
Either way I do hope those reading the post visit your blogs themselves and the anchor text is there too.

@Internet Strategist, You did well, no worries.
As far as I could tell, they all did pretty much what I asked..you just went a little further, which is good.

Hey Dennis,
Just a question, if I throw in the links to the sponsors, my entry for the review is valid already? Let me knowASAP!

Well, it appears that the ‘race’ is back on.
On my blog, I changed the Top Commentator plugin so that it doesn’t ever completely reset. This way, there’s no rush to be on top. I always just show the last 7 days. (It used to be the last 30 days, but then new commentators would never get a chance to be showcased.)

Shirley Reply:

@Dennis Edell, No, it never resets. It’s just a sliding scale. It always looks at the last 7 days, whatever they are.

What I do to get the list of top comment-leavers from a given month is just directly query the database. I login to phpmyadmin and go from there.
I have the query that I use (and just change the dates) every month and would be more than happy to email it to you if you would like.

One more thing we can all do is go visit all the sponsor’s sites who so generously donated cash or prizes to this contest. They may be blogs we’ll want to subscribe to or share in our Social Networking accounts.
I started doing that yesterday and will continue today.

@Internet Strategist, Thanks buddy, this is a very important aspect of contests, and the main reason people sponsor them.
If you want sponsors, list them and encourage visits.
