UPDATED! Opening INTERNAL Links- New Window or Same Window?

UPDATE: Many good responses so far but please keep in mind, this is a Beginner Tips Blog. Those that have only been online 6-12 months may not know all the *tricks* in how to open links. I’m imagining most simply left-clicking.

A quickie post since it’s my 3rd today. I asked this once last year and got an ok response. However, since I am starting a whole bunch of exact this type of work, I’m figuring to get some fresh thoughts.

Considering most will agree external or outgoing links (site to site) should open in a new window to keep visitors on your blog, we will concentrate today on internal links. For those unsure, this is where you link one article to another article within the same blog, like I’m doing here. This is a must-do link strategy in it’s own right, but that’s another article.

UPDATE: Changes Made To The Permanent BackLink Page

Some may feel a bit slighted, but I believe the majority will be OK…or even better. I’ll get straight to the point with explanation to follow. Unfortunately sole Twitter followers (those not subscribed to the blog) will NOT have their Twitter link permanently in place, as originally planned.

This is something I have been thinking about since before I even put up the original post. Among other things, my one worst fear has come to life even quicker then I thought it would…..those attempting to cheat the system by un-following as if I wouldn’t know. Such silly people.

My reasons in full are as follows…

    1. Email Subscribers show A LOT more trust and faith in a particular blogger then anyone else, and should be rewarded for it accordingly.

Your Permanent Backlink Page Is Up And Running!

Update - Please see this post for final changes to the page.

As I’m sure most of you remember, I announced back in mid-December that I was installing a permanent backlink page for anyone that subscribed via email, and/or follows me on Twitter. (The possibility of two links.)

I also said it would be ready to display by the following Monday…well, it WAS but I ran into the really annoying issue of too much on my Nav. bar.

FIXED! Thanks to the awesomeness that is Jarret Cade, and his amazingly simple tutorial on how to hide navigation pages, I have done it!

Notice the Comment Policy is gone from the top…now hidden and solely linked to from within the comments (where it belongs, duh).

What Criteria Factors Into Your Link Love/Round-Up Posts?

Our $100 first prize (among many others) is still WIDE open! Also don’t forget to claim your permanent backlink if you subscribe via email and/or follow me on Twitter ;)

    ———————————

No matter what you call them; Link Love, Link Round-Up, Post Round-Up, Article Round-Up, or another; they are all the rage around the blogosphere. It is indeed a great way to not only show some love and respect to fellow bloggers, but to share some pretty awesome post finds with your readers.

It’s true, some do use them as “filler” posts, but that’s OK too. They are almost always at least somewhat useful, and they do take a little time to set up. However, if you’re the type to only post once per week, don’t make a month’s worth of posts just round-ups; your readers will not appreciate it.

UPDATE: Free Permanent BackLinks: Are You A Subscriber Or Following Me On Twitter?

Latest Update - Please see this post for final changes to the page.

Our $100 Best Blog Review contest is in full effect! Will you be going for the gold?

Update to post below: The page itself is completed (excluding links) but I need help with the Title before publishing. Right now it’s “Meet Our Subscribers”. Ideally it should imply both subscribers and Twitter followers, however “Meet Our Subscribers & Twitter Followers” is far too long.

Any thoughts? Please use the contact form only.

For all those new to this post, read on and comment with your links!

I was going to wait until the New Year to announce this coolness, but why wait to make my people happy!

As you all should know by now, I am all about sharing the luv link style with those that luv me (and those that don’t yet, but will). Y’all know who I mean; those that read, subscribe, comment, and generally share their generous knowledge with us all.

How Do You Check For Incoming Links?

A little reminder of three posts on DennisEdell.com and an EASY $300 on EasyCashContests ;) .

Now I’m not asking about all those cool little SEO tools, that give you all the numbers and such. Instead, lets say you turn on your computer each morning and wish to see who’s linking to you…what do you use?

I’ve heard some say they just use the dashboard:

    (Highlighted to the right.)

I however have come to realize recently that this method can be quite ineffective…three reasons I see for this:

    1. It shows your comments on do follow blogs; useless for these purposes.

    2.  It shows sites where you are top commenter; again useless for these purposes.

    3. This morning mine shows this site as linking to me. 1 Million PayPal to the first to explain that to me.

Link Love For Favicon Contest Participation! (no winner yet)

My sincerest apologies for not picking a winner yet. There are many good suggestions, and I’m waiting on some verification on whether some can actually be “shrunk” to favicon size and still “make sense”, before I announce a winner.

However, there’s no reason to hold off on a little link love! As promised, everyone that participated with an idea of their own, gets a wee extra yumminess here. *wink*

There’s more then a few, so please go through them slowly as you visit sites.

Would You Like To Be A Comment Ninja?

Hello all, just a brief note today about what my new pal Danny Cooper over at the LinkersBlog is about to unleash.

He believes he can show you how to do amazing feats with blog commenting and I think he might be able to do just that with his new Blog Commenting Blueprint.

The man is all over the place and has done EXTENSIVE testing in the area of blog commenting. The best part is, hes giving away a few promotional copies to random interested parties before he goes live with sales.

Be sure to head on over and check it out for yourself!

Also let me know below what you think of it all ;)

    Never stop pushing forward!

Contest Over: Prizes Coming - Link Love First!

Well, my first contest, as odd as it may have been is over :) . There were some really good suggestions as to what go do with the “coming soon” boxes, so as stated it will take a little time to select the winners.

As stated, I need to confer with an associate or two not related to the contest, then email winners to confirm facts before announcement.

As promised though (prize #1), no one goes away empty handed! Everyone that took the time to come and leave their thoughts (whether they actually followed the rules or not ;) ) gets a link back here :-)

Opening Links: Same Window or New Window - Which Do YOU Prefer?

link windowlink windowAs you may have guessed, this article is in regards to linking and primarily which is the best *code* to use when doing so.

Should you have it open in the same window…effectively drawing people away from your site…or a new window…leaving the original one in tact for the reader to go back too.

This thought popped into my head while reading a post by Lynn Terry, entitled Stop Linking To Your Home Page!

This is all about internal or deep-linking as it’s called. The act of linking to pages within your blog from outside sources OR from within the blog itself, as I did here in the first sentence.

We will get a lot more into the workings of internal deep-linking in the days to come, as it is VERY important for SEO. For our purposes here though, we will stick to one specific aspect - Same window/New window, how do visitors prefer they open.
