D.S.W.M. Monthly Article Round-Up Is Back!
Some of you golden oldies may remember this. Back in June ‘08 I announced a new feature here; a link love style post at the end of each month highlighting the best posts from the previous month. This serves three purposes…
1. A reminder to those that read it, but may be looking for it.
2. An obviously handy feature for new readers (at least 1 month new).
3. Very handy dandy internal linking for the blog owner (me in this case).
The problem was, I was disorganized, or too busy, or falling apart, or or or or whatever…I only did two. The first was a little lengthy, as I did all the best posts from the beginning, November ‘07 through June. I missed July and August completely, due to an unfortunate accident, and finally remembered again in October.
And that as they say was that.
Anyhoo, I’ve decided to try again with high hopes this time in being able to do one each and every month. I may even test out the Best Posts Summary Wordpress plugin. It’s supposed to do exactly this, automatically. You enter the number of posts to find, and it picks the best according to certain criteria; comment/visitor count and so forth. Although it may be easier then listing them all by hand, my doubts lie in the fact that it may not show an accurate accounting of “best posts” according to the blogger, for a number of reasons.
We shall see, when i conduct the tests. For now I will be hand-picking and you can expect January’s round up tomorrow
.

Be sure to let us know if you use the best post summary plugin- it will be interesting to see which posts it picks and how the computer grades instead of the person using personal preference.

@Jen & Moneyac - I will and thanks. According to the settings page before even testing it, it does look like it grades according to comments/visits - not very accurate for some blog owners, especially with the top commenter plugin installed. LOL
We’ll see. I’ll let y’all know.

Unfortuantely I’m too new of a reader to remember this feature. I am interested to see what posts you pick from the last month because you have certainly had some good ones.
That plugin sounds interesting but it neglects the fact that when a person goes back and looks at their older writing, some of the ones they feel are the best may have not had much traffic or response.

@Nick, Yeah, for sure, that will be a downside with the plugin, but hey, everything automatic or robotic can’t ever really match a human when it comes to opinions and thoughts. Still, this plugin should be interesting. I’m personally looking forward to it a bit too.

@Nick, Exactly right. I’ll test it, but without high hopes for that exact reason.
