Are you an “email pack rat”? Hundreds (if not thousands) of emails in this folder and that folder, or worse….not in folders?
Let me tell you from past and current experience, GO THROUGH THOSE EMAILS! Seriously. Although I probably should have done this in December, part of new years organization is going through ALL the old saved emails.
Keep what may actually be relevant and quickly toss what’s left. (Immediately empty the trash folder too, too make sure they’re gone.)
As for “keeping what may actually be relevant”, please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying to just put them back into save mode. If you find something you can use, USE IT. Implement whatever it is, ASAP.
If you must re-save it for a week or two, then fine. Make sure you go back to it though. Honestly? You’ve had it for a year or more, you’re not going to need it in a week or a month from now; use it now or toss it.
So far this week I’ve gone through many (not even half tho). I’ve tossed a ton, put a very select few back into save mode and immediately implemented some.
I’m telling ya, there’s golden nuggets in them thar emails! Blog posts, Article ideas, Affiliate info AND some nifty Affiliate programs I forgot about; just to name a few.
OK ya caught me! Yes, I put a very select few back into save mode. Mainly Blog & Article Ideas that I KNOW will be used.
The ONLY others that go back into save mode are those with a lot of useful looking links within. And, they will only stay saved until I finish going through all the emails. I don’t want to spend 30 minutes going through one link filled email now, when I could be tossing 50 others in the same time frame.
Once I have gone through every one, implemented what I could right away, saved the blog/article ideas in their respective places and tossed the rest; then I will return to the link-ridden emails and give them the time they need - again, implementing or tossing them afterwards.
NOTE: Now, I’m not saying to drop everything and spend night and day going through emails until they are done. But, I’m also saying not to look at it as simply “busy work” either. Most of it is, yes, but like I said, you can (dare I say will), find those nuggets that could bring you immediate productive action.
We all like to save emails for one reason or another. I’m here to tell you to toss them now! However, be sure to go through them one by one (not to slow though) because I guarentee you will find some golden nuggets
My advice: Start now and end by the end of the month.
Never stop pushing forward!
Dennis

Hello Dennis (is it Dennis? Your about and contact us don’t reveal your name but I assumed it from your other URL).
I also recycle my emails and other web content to make new products. It’s a great way to reach different audiences for less time and effort! I wrote an article about this very subject recently: http://www.sitepronews.com/archives/articles/2007/1220.html

Very good idea and quite an informative article. I picked up some nuggets myself!
You also raise a point in my mind that I should mention.
You talk about recycling YOUR OWN content. This is great because you can do petty much whatever you wish with it, since it was yours to begin with.
I was referring to incoming emails, from lists and such that you may be on.
I should reiterate here that I suggested using them for post and article IDEAS.
If you’re using others material for posts and articles like I suggested, you must either change it up enough to not get snagged for plagiarism or be sure to give the proper credit.

Dennis,
Great tip! I have so many emails to clear out but didn’t think about using them for content ideas. In Dec. I did get rid of a lot of old emails however I still have a lot to go.

Just remember Angie, not to try and do them all at once. You’d be surprised how many you can get through in just an hour or 2 at a time (assuming you don’t get caught in the link-ridden ones)
One good way to break up the boredom a little is, if you find one that would make a good, reasonably quick blog post; do it right then.
