Press ReleasePress ReleaseOpening up a new shop? Ready to launch your website? Got a big fundraiser in the works that you’d like to announce? Press releases are an excellent form of FREE advertising that can reach an extraordinary amount of people. Craigslist does this daily.

Although I have not done press releases as of yet (yet I say!), I wanted to get this to you…

Whenever you’re trying to generate interest in a business event, one of the first things you might try is a press release.

When published, it amounts to free advertising, and can be more effective than an ad due to the credibility of appearing as a news article.

But you don’t have to limit yourself to newspapers when it comes to press releases.

According to The Marketing Report, the huge classified ad site, Craigslist.org is an excellent place for your press release.

They cite two ways to get your release posted:

    1. Post the press release in the appropriate category.
    2. Post a message about your release in the appropriate category, with a link to the release itself.

With more than 10 million people visiting the site every month, clearly this is an easy, fast, and best of all, FREE way to put out the word.

By the way, if you DO have fundraisers in the works, but you can’t seem to find just the right product or products; contact me, I can help :)

    Never stop pushing forward!

Craigslist always has a nofollow on there links. So, they are always useless from an SEO perspective.

James’s last blog post..StumbleUpon traffic? good? bad? OK?

    2. Dennis Edell Says:

Good to know for those that didn’t, but it makes sense, that would be the equivalent to selling links anyway, they aren’t gonna lose PR over something so trivial for them.

I also suspect that the majority using CL aren’t doing it for SEO reasons of any kind.

      Thanks James! :)

I have to agree Dennis. Mostly to bring Traffic to their sites. Good timing on Article, I had been looking at Craigslist as a Marketing option.

    4. Jackie Says:

Also what is this Marketing Report that you speak of?

    5. Dennis Edell Says:

Sorry about that Jackie, I thought I linked in the post. It’s a print newsletter for marketing specialists…a little pricey at $264 per year but it’s got some good stuff.

    7. Tracy Says:

Regardless of the nofollow issue for Craigslist, it can still send traffic. So if you’re doing a PR release just to have something to use to get backlinks, don’t use Craigslist. But if you have a real product that you can tailor into an offer that Craigslist users would like, then go for it.

    8. Dennis Says:

Exactly right Tracy, you can still get PLENTY of traffic.

Besides, as stated, those submitting PR’s do not have “backlinks” on the forefront of their agenda…or at least it shouldn’t be at the top of the list.

    9. WebDiggin Says:

Does craigslist work for affiliate marketing? Either including a direct link to the advertiser, or a link to a presell page? Anyone have any experience?

WebDiggin’s last blog post..5 domain names for 5 dollars (and free privacy registration to boot)

    10. Dennis Says:

Very good question. I have no idea but will definitely look into it.

Any Craigslist pros know the answer?

    11. Jim Says:

I’ve had all my Craigslist ads with affiliate links deleted. I even had a blog link that got deleted. The only time I had an affiliate product not get deleted was when I didn’t leave a referral email address; just let them use the Craigslist assigned email address. I didn’t get any sales, though.

    12. Dennis Says:

Ah, so it is against their TOS. Great info Jim, thanks for sharing. :)

    13. Karan Naidoo Says:

I found your blog via Google while searching for free classified advertising and your post regarding advertising At Craigslist looks very interesting to me. I could not believe the amount of quality material on this site. The site is extremely eyecatching and pulls the reader straight in, the articles are great quality and are very professionally written. I have seen too many of these sites where it looks like they pay an 8 year old to do the writing - Not this one. Your site is easily the best that I have seen in a long while.

    14. Dennis Says:

WOW Karen, thanks so much for all the kind words…that’s exactly what I’m here for.

My virtual door is always open for those that need me :)
