  • Free Backlinks: A Traffic Experiment via Commenting & Promotion

Howdy-ho fellow marketers! This will be brief, as I wasn’t planning to write anything yet until I saw something really cool.

Michael James J., owner of theBloggersource (among other things) is running an experiment of sorts for the purposes of increasing blog traffic by combining commenting & promotion and giving all free blog promotion in the process. To this end he needs you to drop a link with a brief description in his comment area!

Cool, eh? This “offer” lasts until Sunday the 8th, so check out the experiment (3rd link), read some simple guidelines and help him and yourself a bit by taking part.

All links open in new windows so be sure come back after and let me know what you think, and if you participated :) .

    Dennis

I’ll just watch my rankings zoom to the top!

      @Milo, Welcome to the community!

I wouldn’t count on anything zooming from a link or two, but it won’t hurt. ;)

Thanks for the good look, Dennis.

I went, took a look, and decided it just wasn’t for me. I don’t even know why; guess being part of an experiment I didn’t start isn’t pulling my chain right now. But it was interesting to take a look at, for sure.

It was interesting to see all of the different blogs who commented there. I was surprised by the number of people who just had personal blogs where they wrote about anything that came to mind.

Thanks for the heads up. Links are always good.

Not always true, but in this case it is. :)

I’m a good girl and do as I’m told Dennis. I went and followed your example - promoting three blogs with one comment!!!

However, truth be told, YOU are a better “blog promotion tool” than the promotion he’s running!!! The only reason I commented is because you told me to. (I am a mindless drone! :) )

    13. Leo Dimilo Says:

      I dunno Dennis….

While promotion through blog commenting may be worthwhile as far as traffic is concerned (I checked out the bloggersource’s numbers for US traffic), you have to wonder how STICKY that traffic is.

After all, he got 4k last month and out of that 4k, if you were to measure his success by RSS subscribers, it would be a failure.

IF I was trying to promote via blog commenting, I think I would keep a good eye on the bounce rate and time on my site.

Traffic for traffic sake is nothing more than an ego stroke, ya know?

Aside from that, I appreciate you giving a heads up for some free promotion.

      Dennis Edell Reply:

@Leo Dimilo, first welcome to the community!

It’s true, like most things it’s all a numbers game. However it has been proven time and again by now that blog commenting done correctly is an awesome blog promotion tool among other things.

One does have to be sure of at least two things though - the comments are high quality, and your own blog has to be up to snuff…that’s where the high bounce rates come into play.

Done right it can raise ALL stats considerably; comments on your blogs, links in, subscribers, sales; whatever you may be shooting for. :)

    20. Rick Bicycle Hangar Says:

      Dennis,
This is a little off subject. I was just looking at your links in Yahoo. You have over 16000. I just checked your site age (archives) and it looks like you started a little over a year ago. That looks like 1000 links per month.

Where did you get all the links? This might be the base of another article?

      Rick

      Dennis Edell Reply:

@Rick Bicycle Hangar, Definitely a good thought; it I could figure it out I’d write it up! lol Just kidding, it’s on the list. ;)

    21. Gary Vaughn Says:

It’s good to see someone looking into this realm. It seems that it’s very difficulty to actually find an honest link swapper anymore. I’ve tried several times to swap with others and found that about 70% of the time the person with whom I swapped links would simply, for one reason or another, NOT bother to post my link on their site. This is a real shame because if people would take the time to actually make the posts, it would take practically no time at all to build a very impressive list of incoming links for your site. Why is it that so many don’t take advantage of this and would rather just scam their way into oblivian? Maybe it’s the type of person one deals with but then again, how does one know what kind of person they’re dealing with on the Internet?

      Dennis Edell Reply:

@Gary Vaughn, welcome to our little community Gary! :)

You said it all right there my fiend, There must be something to scams or it wouldn’t be so rampant.

Sheer laziness in my eyes, but what do I know. :)
