Guest Bloggers Wanted/Needed Right Here
If you aren’t already aware, guest blogging (writing blog articles for other blogs) is an awesome way to gain attention for your own blog. The “trick” is you have to be willing to “give up” some of your best work. You can’t simply write any ‘ole garbage, slap your name on it and expect the traffic to pour in. Even if the host blogger accepts it (which he/she shouldn’t), it can do you more harm then good.
I say “give up” in quotes because I hate the phrase, but that thinking is what stops most from guest blogging. You’re not giving up anything. Do it correctly, and you can only GAIN. Gain visitors, readers, and ultimately SUBSCRIBERS.
1. Write an awesome article; if you honestly think it is, then the blog host should also.
2. Seek bloggers with a decent readership. I say at least 100-200 subscribers, but others may have varying opinions.
Anyhoo, since this isn’t a post on the how’s and why’s of guest posting, I’ll get to the point! Although I am always open to accepting guest posts, I have a specific need for them now. Coming soon, hopefully by the beginning of March, I’ll be taking a blogging break; a writing break to be exact so I can do some serious work on all 3 blogs…..inside and out.
I’ve had some things on my to-do list for a while…quite a while. PLUS I received some really good feedback and suggestions from those that participated in my blog review contest. Thanks y’all! So, yea I have a LOT of work to do and I don’t want to be “distracted” by writing, nor do I want to just leave the blog “empty”.
Normally I would never post back to back to back guest posts as that’s a horrible way to blog, no offense to some “A-list” splo - err - bloggers out there. But this is a special case. Depending on how long the work takes me, I will pepper in my own stuff in between.
Soooo wanna guest post for me? Got the chops for it? hehe. Check out my guest bloggers page, which lists some common sense rules as well as a few perks that go with it, and contact me if you’re interested
.
Lookin’ forward to workin’ with ya!
Dennis

I’ve thought about asking for this on my website, just to bring in a fresh perspective and allow others to be seen and read elsewhere. But since my blog isn’t followed as much as yours, I wondered that it would be seen as a request of weakness (I can’t blog well, so I’ll ask others to cover for me). Is this something that should be limited until after we have a minimum of 50 to 60 followers, at least? Teri

@Teri Baskett, First I’d like to welcome you to our little community here.
Now, you got a bit of a catch 22 there. I think the main problem you might face is not really getting quality guest posts. Not many bloggers will give up the good stuff for so few readers. Plus, you’re right, the readers you do have might not appreciate it so soon.
What you may want instead of guest writers is ghost writers. Maybe pay for a few articles on topics of your choice. Then add/delete or interject your own style into those articles…you can rewrite a paid article however you wish.
As for gaining subscribers, are you promoting your blog?
Teri Baskett Reply:
February 20th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
@Dennis Edell, Well, yes, I think I promote it….when I blog, I let twitter know and I am developing more followers there–again, it’s a time factor. And I post it to my etsy team and on etsy itself, plus list it on my facebook…I also have rss sign ups available and it’s on my profile on every social marketing group I belong to. I did just make a list and those that don’t automatically tie to my blog page and post updates I will start to mention it there also, but I definitely tell everyone when I enter a new article.

@Teri Baskett, Definitely a good start.
Why don’t you think you “blog well”, can you narrow down any issues you have?
February 17th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
I’ve been thinking about going both ways Dennis. Get your mind out of the gutter
I mean both having guest bloggers and being one. It’s funny how we all seem to think of similar things a lot. It’s almost like we read the same blogs lol

I got an idea!
Since it seems like we all read the same blogs, why don’t we all take a ‘blog vacation’ at the same time. Then we would not notice the others were not posting either.
Ok, maybe not the best idea but, it is 6am and my brain is a little slow.
@Brian, sorry I just can’t get over that you are thinking about going both ways.

This year I’ve had a few guest posts on my blog as well as guest posted for one so far. But I’ve yet to write a guideline like this. Thanks for giving me some good ideas.I think this is important and makes the guest poster know exactly what to do or can expect from you.

Yeh, guest posts are so hard to write. Perhaps I’m just a bit toooo selfish, but I find it very difficult to give away my ‘best’ articles. I always want to hold onto them and publish them on my own blog.
And is does feeling like “giving up” something to me!

How do you go about finding out the number of subscribers a blog has to be able to find blogs with 100-200 readers.
Dennis Edell Reply:
February 19th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
@Khaled, Most will display it around their subscription form once they get over a certain number (usually 50 or so). Other then that I don’t know, but I will find out.
Good question.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:54 am
It can be very hard too write well if it isn’t your site. I agree with you, that you probably end up submitting a masterpiece to other people’s blogs. However, I don’t think it will be much of a problem. If your good, people will notice you. If they want you, they’ll follow your work, Besides, guest blogging, allows you to publish the article with your own name right?

That’s exactly right. Similar to what I said to Shirley above, the right article on the right blog can bring in lots of new traffic. If they like it, they WILL follow the links.

Hey Dennis, I hope you’re productive so you can get back to blogging soon. I know how it is…there’s never enough hours in the day to get everything done!

As for production, we shall see lol. Like I said though, if it takes a while, I’ll pepper in a few of my own in between the guests for sure.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Dennis,
I like your idea about the guest poster having to write a post linking to it after you’ve published. That’s good marketing strategy. Tell me have you seen more traffic from this strategy besides the backlink and Technorati authority.

I wouldn’t advise guests on a new blog until you’ve established yourself to your readers; similar to what I said to Teri in the first comment.
Can you show us the new blog?

hi Dennis,

I can understand you not wanting just any ‘ole garbage for guest posts, but what if it’s MY SPECTACULAR ONE OF A KIND ‘ole garbage?
Seriously though, I have a hard enough time writing enough posts for my own blog… However, Mitch is PROLIFIC. I bet he could whip out a guest post or two.
Can you let us know where you’re going on vacation? Viva Las Vegas? Monte Carlo? Bakersfield, California? Or are you really going to work while we write your posts?
