Guest Post: Article Marketing Experience - Dominique Goh
This is an awesome article from Dominique Goh. Just like the last guest, she writes completely from her own personal experience. This isn’t the average “tips” piece either. She chose instead to give personal insight into people she admires and websites she uses in the Article Marketing niche…
Enjoy!
Mommy Blogger Article Marketing Experience - Dominique Goh
2008 marked a great change in my online career. I had a “new baby” which I wanted to nurture- From Dominique’s Desk.
Being an educator writing articles is not really a problem for me as I am quite used to writing 300-400 word articles since my study days.
Getting inspiration and time to really sit down to pen out my thoughts & ideas was a challenge as I have to deal with two hyperactive boys aged 1 and 4.
Article Marketing is the rage nowadays. There are hundreds of article directories and sites to submit your articles to.
Which should you chose to maximize the exposure given to your article in your chosen niche market?
I have written a few different types of articles and submit them to different sites.
The sites that work in bringing in traffic for me are
- Ezine Articles
- WAHM-Articles
- Type -A-Mom
- Hubpages
The articles that I have submitted to Type-A-Mom and WAHM-Articles generate similar amount of views as the top articles that I have at Ezine Articles.
While Hubpages that I write ranks very well with Google as it even outranks my blog when I do a search for my name.
Through dabbling in article marketing I got to know some fabulous people and learn more about the techniques and ways to market my own articles effectively.
When one talks about article marketing two names pop into my mine. They are Sean Mize and Denise Willms.
Sean Mize is a highly successful article marketer around which exclusively uses article marketing to gain traffic to his squeeze pages. He has thousand over articles to his name on EzineArticles.
Denise Willms of WAHM-Articles is another lady which I admire. She runs the very successful WAHM-Article directory and has recently expended her site to include a forum.
She is also launching the WAHM Christmas Book which I am part of with my article contribution to this project.
These two successful article marketers are people who I try to model on in hope to grow my own online writing business and transit into a WAHM.
How has your article marketing journey been so far?

Hey Dominique, I wanted to be the first to comment and say thanks! Very well written.
I must confess, the whole “sit and do it” aspect to articles just stumps me.
Once I get started I’m good to go, but holy cow, it can take a half day or more just to start!

Nice article, Dominique. I have to admit that, one, I tend to write longer articles, which I’ll need to shorten if I’m going to think about submitting articles, but two, I always seem to vacillate between putting articles on other sites or putting them on my own sites. I can link back to other sites in any case, but I have to work on this thing about articles being “mine!”. lol

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for putting up my guest post. It has been a pleasure writing the post for you.
It really takes a lot of discipline and drive just to get down to writing. I’m sure that with more practice you will be able to get over the ” start to write” hurdle.
@Mitch,
Thanks for the compliments. Length of articles is a personal preference. I find that the 300-400 word length works best in being precise and capturing my readers attention.
I agree it is hard deciding on where to put your articles. Sometime I put them on both my site and the article directories but with slight differences/changes in the article to make it unique to both sites

Article marketing has worked very well for me. It is funny you mention Hub Pages because I was asking about them today. I have used Squidoo for about a year now with great success and had been considering trying Hub Pages as well.

Clearly article marketing is the best way to gain relevant back links. Additionally these back links are gained slowly, not explosively; a characteristic search engines look for. In a very short period of time, your site becomes an authority site, and organic listings develop. It is vital to include appropriate anchor text, and links in the author resource box.

Dominique - My pleasure! Contact me anytime if you wish to do it again in the future
I hope I hurdle soon,. I’ve been putting off PLR and even ghost writers, although the thought is tempting (GR’s more then PLR….less re-writes)

Tara - Welcome! It’s always good to hear when things are working well.
I’m a little ashamed to admit I haven’t gotten to either Squidoo or Hubs yet, but I will!
Perhaps you would like to guest post here on how to gain massive success with Squidoo

AM - Welcome and very good advice! Especially about the resource box; I can’t say how many time I see that screwed up.

Thanks Dennis. I brought a brand new site to PR3, as of the last PR update a couple of weeks ago, just submitting articles and putting good, long tail keyword anchor text in the resource box.

Dominique, I enjoyed reading your post.
Generally, and I have several article directories I use, I go with a 500 word article for Ezine and around 450 words for the others. I have been trying to find some more quality directories though, similar to Ezine, and I will be sure to check out the ones you mentioned.
In regards to just sitting down to writing, this is usually the way I do it. I like to write several posts for my blogs at once, so I can update them throughout the week.
As I am writing posts, I usually write a few articles on the same topics, but with less info, which I will submit to article directories.

Tiger - Interesting, you put less in the article?
October 25th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I do generally put less information in the articles article directories than I do on my site. I want the site that is linked to, to be the authority and not necessarily the article.
This way, an article can spark interest in a topic, but they can then follow the link and receive more information about it. It also means that after reading the article, they don’t come to the site only to find that the article was more comprehensive than the site is.I approach it more like the article directory is a teaser, to in part entice them to visit the site.
Usually in the resource box I infer there is more information on the site and sometimes state what the information is. I then make use of h2 tags on my site, so they can come from the article directory, skip the stuff they already read, and easily find the new information.
October 25th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Excellent idea Tiger, thank you for that. Now if someone could explain h2 tags clearly to this 4yo
October 26th, 2008 at 9:42 am
@Tiger,
I do know of article writers who put a (part 2) to be continued on my site link to increase the click on rate from their resource box.
Interesting way of doing article submission.
Dennis,
h2 tags refers to the Heading tags/size html coding for your post.
Your title here
would result in your title being bold and more outstanding then the normal paragraph text ( your article text)
It is more for text spiders who scan your site to pick it up
a h2 =@ Font size 12 while
h3=@ Font size 14
h4= @ Font size 18 etc
October 26th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I’ve heard many of the directories (EA included) are no longer allowing any links other then the homepage…including in the resource box.
Have you run into this?
I know what the header tags are, I just don’t get how to utilize them correctly….I’m not really explaining myself very well here.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
I’m not doing pretty good in article marketing at the moment, but might want to explore about it later on.
Thanks for sharing your most used articles directories
