I had something similar as a result of falling through a glass door. I was stitched-up but there was an artery leaking and the pressure swelled my leg up and make it go numb. They had to cut my leg open and tie off the artery. Ended up with a bit of nerve damage, but eventually things healed well. Took at least 6 weeks before I could walk without crutches.
