  • Is Article Marketing Right For You?

Article marketing has long been considered by many to be one of the best ways to promote an online business. However, is it the best for YOU?

If you’re looking for promotion methods that cost little to nothing monetarily, then Article marketing might be your ticket. If you have the time to do things properly, then I say go all out and write! It has consistently proven itself as a very effective marketing strategy and shows no signs of slowing down.

Ahh TIME, this is where this method falls flat with a thud for many people. Between the writing and then submitting, this form of marketing can take a considerable amount of time; and this is time not everyone has spare. It can and has been successful for many businesses, but if you don’t have much time to spare, perhaps this is not the method for you.

If you’re a decent writer, not easily distracted, then a 400-700 word article shouldn’t take more then 30-45 minutes to write. If you’re not a good writer, hate to write, do not have the time, etc.; there is possibly one recourse: Hire someone to write for you; this is commonly referred to as a ghost writer..

This too is not a viable option for everyone either. You need to find someone that you can work well together with, then find the money to pay them. A lot of the time, they will want all monies immediately after completion; are you prepared for this? Now, if you do your due diligence, you can quite possibly find someone within your budget, and then this becomes a good option for you.

OK, whether it was written by you or someone else, you have the article complete. Now comes the submitting. Do you have the time it will take? Are you willing to put in that much time? There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of article directories on the ‘Net.

Of course, you won’t submit to ALL of them, not even close. But even 10-20 can take some serious time, especially if you do it manually. That being said, if you do it, I strongly advise you do do it manually. Yes, there is auto-submission software, but I advise against it for 2 reasons.

    1. More and more directories are getting “hip” to certain auto tricks and may easily reject your article.

    2. Many directories have different submission rules then others, which your software may not know of; therefore will get rejected.

If you’re gonna do it, do it manually; at least for a while to learn the ropes.

The other possible option is to have someone do it for you. There are article submission services that will submit your article to X amount of places for X amount of dollars. This is yet again, an outlay of cash. If you can afford it, great. If not, it definitely not worth going into debt.

If you decide to use a service, please be careful, especially if they want the monies upfront. It can be very difficult to tell whether they actually did what they said or not.

Give article marketing a trial run. You won’t know how successful you can be with submitting articles unless you at least try it. The first ones always take more time but that changes with experience.

Write and submit an article per week for 1-2 months and see what happens. By the end, you will have a good idea whether or not you want to continue with this marketing method.

    Never stop pushing forward!
    Dennis

Like you stated article marketing really is a great free way to promote your website/product/idea. I have a list of places I usually submit to, but might just start submitting to ezines as the others don’t tend to generate traffic

    2. Dennis Says:

      Hi Dan, thanks for commenting.

I think the main difference there is, ezines are more immediate and directories and such are more for the “long haul” It takes a lot more consistency.

      I say, do both :)

Article Marketing really helps in getting huge traffic and is a very good source of links. You can get huge number of quality incoming links to your site within short time thus ranking higher in search engines.

However, it does takes me around 30 min to write an article but its worth

    6. Dennis Says:

30 minutes is perfect, and you’re right, it is definitely worth it.

    7. Patty Gale Says:

I think writing and submitting articles, when done correctly, is a great way to get traffic to your site.

Including some great web 2.0 strategies as well, as you’ve created some nice viral content.

    8. Dennis Says:

You’re quite right on the *done correctly* part, for sure.

Don’t get me started on “web 2.0″, ARGG. I wish someone would tell me EXACTLY what that means. They all talk a good game tho.

Not you personally Patty, you know what I mean.

    9. Danielle Says:

Article Marketing is absolutely the best way to get backlinks for your site. On the other hand, it is also a great way to expand your content across the internet and help more people out there. A 400-700 article is not hard to do as long as you don’t let the word count get in the way of your creativity. That I think is the key.

Hey Danielle, welcome to the community!

I have no problem writing once I start, but that alone could take hours…..that’s my biggest glitch.

I hope to see you around more often. :)

I never realized you wrote a post on article writing. I guess this is why people sometimes need to dig through someone else’s archives, as I did Problogger’s some time ago.

You’ve seen my argument, sort of, as to why I haven’t done it, but I’m thinking about doing another round of articles and doubling my contributions there, just to see if I can change some things up. Mirjam had a suggestion to shorten the length of some of my articles as a test, since mine tend to be kind of long; I think I will give it a shot.
