Here ya go, I told ya this was coming too and I’m a man of my word! Heh.

Just to recap, I held the first comment contest in January, killed it in February; wrote about a new comment policy, and am now bringing it back for March and hopefully beyond.

Hopefully beyond? Yep. You see, January was sorta an unofficial behind the scenes test, and some failed…miserably. It seems a few normally awesome commenters really ramped up the crap for contest purposes. No offense, it’s true.

Hence the need for the newly updated and strictly enforced comment policy, neatly linked in big fat letters right above the comment box. I really really hope we can continue them monthly, don’t you? Just having sponsorships has already taken them farther then any other comment contest I’ve seen so far. And, as I’ve said a couple times, if we do continue on a regular basis, I may have a HUGE announcement to make.

I told ya it was coming . When I announced the top commenter winners for January, I stated that there were two posts coming regarding comments on this blog. A general one regarding the official comment policy of this blog and a whole separate page regarding rules & tips for the monthly top commenter contests.

There IS a new updated comment policy and you DO want to read it, as it WILL be enforced. And yes, a few slicksters out there may want to consider that a threat .

Relax. It’s very simple, straight forward and logical. Not to mention, still more lenient then most I’ve seen. All in all though, it had to be done.

I do wish to sincerely apologize to a select few in regards to number 1. In the past I allowed a 3rd option for the name field…..pure keywords as long as you signed a real name under your comment.

Part 1: January Winners!

OK as I mentioned several times, I cut off the contest around 10pm when I logged off. As I feared, it does simply reset with no tracking thereafter. In the future, I may use a database trick that Nick showed me, modifying a query showed here.  This should return an accurate count right up to midnight…in case anyone slips in .

I say may because messing with databases, querys, SQL, and all that nifty jazz is never on top of my to-do lists. LOL

Anyhoo without further ado (does anyone really know how to spell that??)…

A bunch of you have wondered and asked why I haven’t installed the plugin before now (especially since link love seems to be my thing). The fact of the matter is, I’ve held off for a while to be sure I had what I consider to be consistent/decent traffic.

Seriously, top commenter contests are a little, well…..lame, with 20 subscribers and 50 visitors per week; don’tcha think?

I will be having a top commenter contest every month starting on the 1st of each month, starting Thursday, January 1st. Just easier that way, ain’t it? Makes sense to me .
