UPDATE: Changes Made To The Permanent BackLink Page
Some may feel a bit slighted, but I believe the majority will be OK…or even better. I’ll get straight to the point with explanation to follow. Unfortunately sole Twitter followers (those not subscribed to the blog) will NOT have their Twitter link permanently in place, as originally planned.
This is something I have been thinking about since before I even put up the original post. Among other things, my one worst fear has come to life even quicker then I thought it would…..those attempting to cheat the system by un-following as if I wouldn’t know. Such silly people.
My reasons in full are as follows…
1. Email Subscribers show A LOT more trust and faith in a particular blogger then anyone else, and should be rewarded for it accordingly.
2. Twitter followers come and go a lot easier, thus making it much harder to keep track; especially as followers grow. Qwitter is an awesome service, but who knows if it will work every single time. I still recommend it though.
I had more in my head, but the damn phone has derailed my train of thought. LOL. Those are the two primary reasons anyway. My apologies to some for the 1/2 backflip, but it had to be done.
Note to email subscribers: As you can see on the new backlink page, if you are subscribed AND following me on Twitter, you still get BOTH links…please don’t take advantage, they will be checked periodically to the best of my ability.
Also, if I have accidentally deleted you, let me know.
Thanks to all for understanding,
Dennis

Hey Shirley, I really really hope you didn’t take it that way.
my apologies if that’s how it came off to everyone (only a few should feel that way lol)
Very cool on CL, I had no idea. Thanks for telling me!

Very true, that’s the one thing that I hate with text chat. I do enjoy my sarcastic snarkyness from time to time, but it tends to get me in deep. LOL
If you do sub via email be sure to use the contact page to send me the info asked for on the link page.

I think dropping twitter followers makes some sense, to be honest. Although it’s great to encourage people to follow you on twitter, it’s not like a dofollow link is doing to do individuals any good.. those may as well be nofollows.

Nice page, Dennis. I think you did a great job on the links page. You shouldn’t feel bad for doing what you think best. True, some people are going to be quite upset over it, but remember, you can’t make everyone happy no matter how hard you try. Trust me, I’ve tried.

Hi Dennis -
I’m back. I just read your email. You mention Qwitter. So I thought I might be able to mention this one. It’s called “Your Twitter Karma” and yeah you sign in with your Twitter ID and user name. Mentioned that so you don’t wonder what their asking for.
Just click on the Whack button in the center of the page to get started. It creates a list of everybody. It give the total count, only following, mutual friends, only followers and you can sort them by last updated, a-z, z-a. You can also just show followers, following etc if you want to zero in on a category like that.
It shows their image, their user name, if you follow them (green) or they follow you (red) and a tic box. A tic box?, you ask. The tick box lets you make specific manual selection to use with the 5 buttons at the bottom of the page. The 5 are - Check All - Uncheck All - Bulk Follow - Bulk Unfollow - Bulk Block.
I found it handy because it is a pain to search through what Twitter gives you. So many pages to go through.
Your Twitter Karma makes it so much easier. I really like having a-z listing to look for a specific user name and see the status. Hope you like this as much as I do. Almost forgot. Here’s the link -

Geez Dennis, after you got everyone excited about Qwitter, I hate to point out that it’s been out of service for a few weeks now..
However, there are a few similar services out there. Just yesterday I signed up for socialtoo, which emails you a daily listing of new followers and unfollowers. It also allows you to auto follow anyone who follows you, and optionally send an auto-DM.
The latest and greatest feature is actually the reason I signed up: it also PREVENTS you from receiving those auto-DMs from other socialtoo members.

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. I can certainly see why you made this decision and from the comments it looks like most everyone else feels the same way.
Doesn’t it suck that people feel a need to try and game the system like that?

Dennis, I should have mentioned this earlier - I changed my Twitter id from seowordsmith to twitter.com/selfpubreview because I’ve been devoting A LOT more time to that site. Twitter should make old URLs automatically forward, but until then…
