I think Lucia's Linky Love is a great invention. I'd much rather visit a blog that has familiar names commenting and that increases the chance of folks coming back.

Great idea, it means the comments are worth reading but still gives regular commentators some rewards!

To be honest, I think this is a good idea (I didn't comment before, skimmed over this post!) - and although on our own blog (see link) we are fully "do follow", we moderate quite harshly.

I like the idea of rewarding regular contributors over fly-bys and the like, though, and may incorporate that in the future!

Hi Dennis,

This has been a pet issue of mine for some time now - the "nofollow" issue.

I like to think that good blog posts will attract well thought out, constructive comments and if so, over time they should be allowed some back link reward.

The right commenters will then continually come back and a robust community of people can share their experiences. This is a "global" community and it is a way of leveraging different thoughts and ideas across the world. What works in one location or country may be different in another.

I do take exception to innane comments such as "nice blog" - they should be punted forever. Well done in putting this into your guidelines.

The bottom line is that we all have many different motives for participating in blogs. Mine is to learn and contribute and get some "love" back to our website. I won't hide from the fact that I want better rankings for our web pages. However, search engines are only one way of getting people to your website. Referrals from other sites, such as a good blog is high on the priority list, as well as the traditional sales and marketing strategies.

Regards
