OK Ya Got Me - Wordpress Back-Up Plugin Is Installed…Sweet!
Well, there’s not much to add to that, except to ask several followers - happy now? I am!
Also to any other 4yo techies - get this plugin, oh my god is it super simple and works like a charm!
I have mine set to back-up once daily, as I figured every hour was a little TOO paranoid LOL.
In conclusion to what’s probably my shortest post ever, I ask…Do you back-up your blog? What do you use and how often do you use it?
Never stop pushing forward!
Dennis

I havent actually managed to back up my blog yet…I shoudl really get around to it! Foolishly I’ve never considered that my site might go down or that I’ll get taken down by some ‘unloved’ hacker, lol. If the tool is just one click setup, then it sounds fantastic - I’ll definatly check it out!

Dan - Welcome! I’m right there with ya my man. This was my first EVER back-up…at least the first that worked LOL
So if you’re as techie as I am (see:NOT) then this plugin is a must have!
Let me know how it goes when you do

It’s definitely about time, Dennis. Wow, two major changes in the past week for you; you sure it’s not a mid life crisis? lol
October 26th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Anythings possible. LOL
More then two, keep up man! I’ve got additions, deletions and changes all over the place.
I’ll be discussing a couple cool new plugins soon. (New to me anyway.)

I backup using the CPanel backup feature…
October 26th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Well, I’m talking about the “big two” those being this one and the automatic update plugin. Those are the most important, IMHO.
October 26th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Ben - tried that and it was a disaster; good for you though!
October 26th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Mitch - Actually I haven’t installed that one yet…this time around I used cpanel to upgrade
October 26th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
I back up everyday with the wp back up plugin
October 26th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Dennis - great to see you have a backup installed. I don’t have my current blog backed up but I did have previous blogs that I owned. I just used control panel feature that came with the hosting package.

I use the “Wordpress Database Back Up” by Austin Matzko. I have it set to daily, because if I post 4 times a week, and someone hacks my blog, I don’t know when that might happen and so I want to be sure I have the latest back up.

ZK - Awesome ain’t it!

Andy - More power to ya buddy lol, as I said to Ben above, I tried that and totally failed.
October 26th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
JR - Very good point. I made sure to install it now as well since I find myself posting practically daily all of a sudden lol.
As for CommentLuv I did find out something interesting. Sometimes it takes it a little time to “catch up”…so if you post then comment real close together, it may not catch the last post yet…..could this be it?
October 26th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Do you have a link to the plug-in, I couldn’t find one in your post?

For manual back up of your sql database table is still the best. I tried installing plugin like this before and I ended up being hacked

DCD - Wow I can’t believe I forgot to link it, sorry about that. I’ve fixed the post and here is the link…

Welcome to the blog, and I hope to see you again!

Dexter - Manual is I’m sure, but since I have no idea how, nor will I attempt it on my own (as many others feel I’m sure) this is a god send until I see otherwise
Fingers crossed…
Welcome to the blog!

You may want to check wp db manager.
it’s a lot more powerful compared to wp db backup
October 27th, 2008 at 7:17 am
Oh Aca dear, you’re killin’ me! Do you know how long it took for me to break down and install THIS one?? LOL
I’ll definitely look into it though
October 27th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Nice plugin. I wish that you would have provided a link that shows you how to re-install the database tables. I have just watched my site crash after trying to auto update to the newest version of wordpress and need to try and restore my tables. guess I need to google real quick ;>)
October 27th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Fail - Damn I’m sorry that happened, but I’m a little confused. This plugin is not the auto-update plugin as far as WP versions are concerned, this is a plugin for the problem you are having now…when the blog crashes and you need the last stable version.
October 28th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Dennis - hourly lol! I back mine up weekly.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
LOL being the Murphy’s law magnet that I am, I figured daily was appropriate.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Great job getting that plugin! It will be the best one you’ve ever used if you come to need it one day. Or even just get a scare like I did.

Excellent max, I hope it works out for ya and welcome to the blog!
I’d feel remiss though, if I didn’t give a friendly warning on the dangers of comment linking on your first comment…many bloggers would delete the whole thing
Nice blog btw, I’ll be back when I have more time.

Thanks for adding the link. I’ve added the plug-in to my blogs and am backing up regularly now. Cheers!

I tried installing the auto backup plugin once, but couldn’t get it to work. I guess I must have done something wrong cos everyone else seems to rave about it. Anyhow, I tend to just to manual backups from cPanel whenever I think of it, which is normally every couple of weeks. This does have the benefit that it backs up all your images, scripts etc too - not just the db.

Rodney, there is db manager plugin (db’s father I guess lol) which downloads everything as you describe; I haven’t installed it yet though.
